Moore Montessori Community School Charter Renewed for 10 Years

PRESS RELEASE

January 12, 2026

Southern Pines, NC — Moore Montessori Community School (MMCS) is proud to announce it has been awarded a 10-year charter renewal, the highest renewal category and the strongest endorsement granted by the Charter School Advisory Board of North Carolina. Granting a decade-long renewal reflects the state’s confidence in the school’s outstanding overall performance, demonstrated academic growth, and strong organizational and financial health.

The renewal follows an extensive 18-month evaluation process that included a comprehensive self-study and state advisory panel interviews with school families, staff, and board members. This rigorous review affirmed MMCS’s excellence across academics, operations, governance, and financial stewardship.

“Receiving a 10-year charter renewal affirms the strength of our mission, the quality of our program, and the dedication of our children, families, staff, board and community partners,” said Ronda Hawkins, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “Since opening our doors in 2018, we have been committed to providing students with a rigorous, student-centered education, and this decision allows us to continue that important work with long-term stability and purpose.”

Founded in 2018, MMCS was established to provide a high-quality, hands-on Montessori learning environment for students in the region. In just seven years, the school has tripled its student body, added a middle school program, expanded to a permanent 12-acre campus, and completed a $2 million renovation of Voss Hall.

Today, the school remains committed to delivering authentic, child-centered, in-person learning experiences guided by a passionate and knowledgeable teaching faculty. MMCS’s Montessori approach avoids overreliance on technology and screens while fostering children’s independence, curiosity, and deep academic engagement.

Looking ahead, MMCS is focused on developing a model outdoor learning and play environment that extends the school’s commitment to whole-child development, nurturing play, time in nature, and outdoor extensions of the curriculum. The school is also planning future renovations to its gymnasium and auditorium to enhance student athletics, performances, and community programs for youth.

MMCS extends its sincere gratitude to its educators, families, board members, and community partners whose dedication and support made this achievement possible.
